5 out of 5

The Last Fifth Grade of Emerson Elementary tells the story of eighteen fifth graders through their poetry. Their elementary school is going to be turned into a grocery store if the kids don’t find a way to save their school–and quick! I liked how much you could tell about each of the fifth graders–Sydney Costley, Rennie Rawlins, Tyler La Roche, Norah Hassan, Rachel Chieko Stein, Sloane Costley, Mark Fernandez, Ben Kidwell, Katie McCain, Gaby Vargas, Brianna Holmes, Edgar Lee Jones, Newt Mathews, George Furst, Jason Chen, Hannah Wiles, Shoshanna Berg, and Rajesh Rao– from the poems that they wrote throughout the school year. I would recommend this book to people from ages 10-12.
