Even though the subject material is overall pretty sad, Bechdel told her/her father’s story in a funny way. The language and tone don’t make the book feel like a “comic book,” which usually has connotations of childishness. I appreciated the blunt and matter-of-fact style of storytelling. The illustrations actually contribute more to the humor than the words do, so there was really no better format for the story than graphic novel.
